Movies

My Christmas/New Year's movie binge is complete. Overall, I would say it was a huge success! In the past I've been generally disappointed with the year end rush of Oscar candidates, however I enjoyed nearly every film we saw this year.

:-) SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE: Maybe best pic of the year, still have a few to see. Would gladly sit through this again, it's a very smooth ride.

:-) BEDTIME STORIES: The entire Guad/Carter clan saw Adam Sandler's latest. Fun for the whole family; If I had seen it without them I may have lost patience half way through. My low expectations were exceeded

:-( SEVEN POUNDS: Slow, absurd, and painful. If only I had a poisonous sea creature with me at the time...

:-) MARLEY & ME: Again, the entire Carter/Guad clan braves Utah's DEADLY ROADS to see a family movie. We laughed, we cried, and then we sobbed uncontrollably. No awards here, just a great movie about family. I will own this DVD. Note: You may want to cover your eyes during Kathleen Turner's scene... YIKES she's scarry!

:-) VALKYRIE: I saw a picture from the film with Tom Cruise in full Nazi dress and I couldn't help but laugh before going into the theater. Gladly I was surprised at how good this movie is. Considering you know how the movie has to end, it does a fantastic job of combining a light history lesson with a great action/adventure movie.

:-) DOUBT: The title says it all except for how I felt about the movie. One of the BEST of the bunch as far as I'm concerned. I love movies that have me pondering the subject matter for days after. This will win awards.

:-| THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON: I mistook philosophical for pointless. I need to watch it again perhaps without the woman next to me talking on her cell phone. It's probably better than I think. Maybe.

:-) YES MAN: Some very funny moments, some slightly uncomfortable moments. I laughed... what more did I want?

:-) GRAN TORINO: Clint Eastwood takes a tired and cranky Dirty Harry out for one more spin and the neighbors rejoice. I liked him as well. See it with a dad, a grandpa, or some cheap dego bastard and his dog eating wife.

I'm glad you liked Gran Torino. I plan on seeing it with my Dad this weekend if he's game.
